Change is a word that often elicits a negative reaction. Why do things have to change? How will this affect me? It is often difficult to wrap one’s mind around changes, especially if you can’t see why the change is happening. What most people forget is that change is very necessary and if taken with a positive attitude, can result in great things.
PeopleCare, in its rather short period of existence, has and continues to go through many changes. Some of the changes have been small, like a new email address here and there, but others have been rather large, like expanding to cover all 64 counties of the state of Colorado. With the big changes, inevitably, come the smaller but just as important supporting changes. We opened an office to better assist in covering the northern section of the state. In doing so, we realigned a number of the counties we were already servicing. Eventually, these changes trickled down to affect our clients and caregivers, often causing confusion and frustration, but it is important to remember, these changes are to allow us as a company to offer the best service, care and support to our clients and caregivers. With these changes, PeopleCare has been able to more quickly reach clients in need and more effectively support our caregiver staff. We work very hard to make all of our changes positive, keeping our company vision and mission at the core of every decision we make.
Change can be a beautiful and inspiring process. I think of the leaves in the fall and the flowers that bloom in the spring…or the ever growing amount of greys that keep sprouting from my head. All of these are examples of the beauty of change (I love my greys). Of course it is a whole lot more difficult to see that beauty when the change is happening directly to you, but I encourage those who are in the middle of such a process to remember how much better things can be on the other side. The older I get, the more important it has become to be able to embrace change and do so with grace and appreciation.
At PeopleCare Health Services, we pride ourselves on being a means of support during some of our client’s most difficult changes. As PeopleCare experiences changes of our own, we thank our clients and caregivers for returning the support. The journey would not be nearly as beautiful without you!!
