home health aides Canon City Denver Aurora Delta MontroseLorin Chevalier, Co-CEO

Email: LorinC@PeopleCareHS.com It’s my sincere honor to serve as Co-CEO of PeopleCare Health Services, where I direct the Company’s corporate development, finance, legal, and IT activities. For most of the past 20 years I’ve had the privilege of working with great teams to increase individual access to high quality healthcare across the nation, including the mental health/substance abuse, chiropractic/acupuncture/therapeutic massage, and home healthcare fields. I’m excited to continue this work in home healthcare for PeopleCare. Immediately prior to joining PeopleCare in 2017, I worked on consulting and mergers & acquisition projects for Summit Life Solutions. In 2007, I launched Summit Life Solutions in Denver as a start-up to acquire the franchised home care business, Senior Helpers, which we built until its sale in 2014. I previously served as chief financial officer for American Specialty Health, a nationwide health insurance and wellness managed care organization based in San Diego. Before that, I served as chief financial officer for the Fortune 500 Client Division of ValueOptions, a nationwide health insurance and behavioral health managed care organization based in Norfolk, VA. I previously served as chief financial officer for Toledo, OH based online employee benefits administrator, Digital Horizons. Before that, I spent 15 years in finance and capital markets including nine years in investment banking and public accounting in New York City. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Business Administration. I’ve done post-graduate work at the University of Colorado Denver and at the New York Institute of Finance, and completed executive education programs at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Over the past 10 years, I’ve actively participated in numerous Colorado healthcare initiatives, including being appointed to committees for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF), addressing members of the Colorado State Legislature including the Joint Budget Committee on a number of occasions on hospice and home healthcare matters, and serving on the board of directors of the Home Care Association of Colorado. In support of my alma mater, I also served 10 years on the Board of Trustees for the University of Colorado Foundation. Go Buffs! Go PeopleCare!!!

Sarah Engels, Co-CEO

Email: SarahE@PeopleCareHS.com I am the Co-CEO of PeopleCare Health Services, serving all 64 counties throughout Colorado. I have served on the Board of Directors for the ALS Association (Rocky Mountain Chapter) and currently a patron member of the Colorado Bar Association. Additionally, I am a certified instructor for the National Mental Health First Aid Training Course as well as the Diabetes Self-Management Training Course, and also serve on two Professional Advisory Committees within Health Care and Health Sciences Education. My experience with the elderly dates back to my childhood, growing up and working with my father and mother, the Nursing Home Administrator and lead RN. After attending college in Chicago, I spent several years working with at-risk adolescents as a House Parent and Lead Trainer, which ultimately led me to the role of Administrator of Youth Benefits Unlimited as well as working as foster parent for multiple counties in Colorado. I served as Vice President of Operations for Complete Medical Staffing and California Medical Staffing, a national company where I was directly responsible for over 250 RN’s, PT’s, OT’s and SLP’s. The most recent of my endeavors leading up to my current role was the Director of Operations for Senior Helpers, overseeing both marketing and operations for the agency. Born in Colorado and currently residing in Denver, I count myself a true Colorado native! I can’t imagine living anywhere else, except maybe Seattle because I have secret desire to be a barista at the original Starbucks coffee shop (though I know I wouldn’t be happy doing that because customers would keep interrupting me as I tried to enjoy endless cups of specialty coffees!).

Todd Slechta, Director of Personnel Development

Email: ToddS@PeopleCareHS.com I was born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago and am a long time Cubs and Bears fan. Consequently I’m no stranger to false hope and disappointment. That is why I am an even more passionate and devoted fan to the game of soccer and a long time season ticket holder for the Colorado Rapids and fan of the United States Men and Women’s soccer teams! I earned my Bachelor and Master degrees from North Park University in Chicago and have had the privilege of being involved in education administration in both post-secondary non-profit, and public primary education sectors. My career in administration has taken me all over the world residing for periods of time in Canada and most recently in Ecuador, where I helped oversee the start-up of a satellite campus for a college based in Canada. Additionally, I’ve lived and/or studied in Sweden, the former Soviet Union and the State of Israel. During my stint in public schools I had the privilege of participating in the development of a school that uniquely worked with children that had special needs, some of the most rewarding work I’ve ever experienced. Through a combination of changes at the school along with a unique opportunity, I joined PCHS in early 2012 as the Director of Operations. It has been a privilege to be a part of the growth of PeopleCare that seeks to extend the dignity of choice to our clients, doing what we can to provide them with optimal independent living, especially to those that reside in rural settings. However, I am most proud of the efforts to reach children with special needs and their parents within the Medicaid community because it is a natural extension of my heart and passion. In my free time my family and I raise puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind and cheer on our Colorado Rapids. I personally enjoy hiking, golfing and in the winter, more often than not you’ll find me skiing on one of the many beautiful mountains here in Colorado. Though I’m a Chicago-boy by birth, I’m a Colorado-boy by adoption!

Phil Gibson, Director of Business Development & Marketing

Email: PhilG@PeopleCareHS.com I fancy myself a bit of a “Renaissance man,” someone with an unquenchable curiosity for anything and everything, with a touch of feverish imagination and clothes that are ridiculously out of date! I am PCHS’s Business Development and Marketing Director and a Colorado native with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (concentrations in IT and Marketing) from Colorado State University. Having over 20 years of medical sales and sales management spent mainly in orthopedics and pain management, I was looking for a new challenge. As chance would have it, along came this opportunity with PeopleCare Health Services and its unique mission of helping rural Coloradans with their non-medical care and supporting the Medicaid community. It has been quite an adventure because in the time I’ve been with PCHS they have expanded their reach to 14 Western Slope counties, opened a new office in Denver to cover Eastern and Northern rural counties and was key in developing PeopleCare South to serve the counties in Southern and Southeastern Colorado. I hope to bring creativity to community relations and that my passion and personality, along with my experiences will help bring PeopleCare Health Services to new levels.

Kristi PeopleCare West Home Health Team Delta ColoradoKristi St. Clair, Home Care Administrator

Email: KristiS@PeopleCareHS.com My name is Kristi St. Clair and I am the Home Care Administrator for PeopleCare Health Services. I grew up in Glendale, Arizona but spent my summers in Colorado. I always wanted to live here and so, in pursuit of that desire, moved to Delta in 2005. I have always had a passion for serving people and have a special place in my heart for the elderly. When I was very young I began visiting nursing homes and was always amazed by how much I could learn from just a short visit. I also noticed how happy folks were to have someone to talk with and teach. Sometimes my heart was so moved that I wanted to take them all home with me (an idea my mother categorized as “Not My Best”). Eventually I embarked on a journey to serve people, becoming a CNA and an EMT while pursuing further education.  However, two full time jobs and school proved to be a bit much for a single Mom. So I settled in for 10 years working as a CNA and with EMS serving first Glendale, AZ and eventually Delta, CO. I also became a certified First Aid and Health Care Professional CPR instructor and assisted teaching EMT classes. I even tried my hand at coal mining! When my family status changed, so did my career path and I found just the right place for me with PCHS. All of my experience in caring for, and teaching others, came together in one role, Agency Manager, giving me a place where I could help people continue to live in their homes and guide the Caregivers that help make it possible. I have a personal belief that each generation should learn from those who have come before them. That is why I am currently a 4-H Leader, serve as the Vice President of the Delta County Senior Resource Council and, I am a member of the Delta County Fair Board. In each of my commitments, I strive to provide opportunities that bring seniors and youth together.

IMG_2660Mark Simmonds, Controller

Email: MarkS@PeopleCareHS.com I’m definitely an import to Colorado! I grew up in the southwest of Australia, working for a local public accounting firm for almost 8 years, during which time I completed my college degree part time in the evenings and then went on to earn my Chartered Accountant professional certification. I was bitten by the travel bug and moved to London, mainly doing project accounting and management accounting for the International Planned Parenthood Federation. Through IPPF I was lucky enough to be able to travel to many amazing countries to participate in the financial review of our projects. When working in these countries (which included Kenya, Tanzania, Guinea Conakry, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Romania), you get a very different perspective than when visiting as a tourist. It instilled in me a sense of gratitude for many of the things we take for granted every day, such as access to healthcare, clean drinking water and education. In 2000 my wife and I moved to Denver to be closer to her family and I have enjoyed working in various senior finance and accounting roles, mostly at large corporations. My passion for learning has continued in the States and I’m now a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Management Accountant. Prior to PeopleCare I was Divisional Controller for a locally headquartered mortgage bank, responsible for the accounting and finance functions for the mortgage branches across the country. I’ve recently also done consulting work for Northwest Colorado Health, which drew me back into the healthcare industry, from financial services. Healthcare will continue to see a significant amount of change over the next few years and I am excited to bring my broad background and skills to PeopleCare to help deliver the home health services so needed in the remote rural areas of Colorado. I live in Centennial with my wife, dual-citizen kids (a son and a daughter), enjoying the lifestyle that Colorado has to offer – including golf, tennis, hiking, camping, live music, and snowshoeing.

Valerie Baker-Easley, Director of Policy and Compliance

Email ValerieB@PeopleCareHS.com I am the Director of Policy and Compliance for PeopleCare Health Services. I have a diverse background in healthcare, having served for nearly a decade as Executive Director of a physician network in Northern Colorado, overseeing healthcare contracting, provider relations, quality assurance and credentialing activity for an association of more than 100 clinics. I’ve most recently come from Colorado Medicaid, where over five-plus years I managed Medicaid contracting, behavioral health services, the Children’s Health Plan (CHIP), and the variety of benefits that make up the Medicaid program. Medicaid is a highly complex system of benefits and the opportunity to understand its many ins and outs was a continuous learning experience! My family moved to Colorado from Iowa when I was young, so we’ve always considered Colorado our home. I come from a big family and am fortunate to have all of them within an hour of Denver, except for one nephew who is off living the “Deadliest Catch” dream in Alaska. I love the wilderness of our mountains, canyons, hot springs and sand dunes here, and am an avid hiker. I’m a softball fan, as our daughter is the head coach at University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Many a summer was spent roasting in the sun, following her teams in tournaments around the country. It’s amazing how sport parents, armed with only a city location and a date, can find the correct ballfield in a strange city on the other side of the country – in time for the pre-game warmup! So detective work and navigation skills are my fallback job prospects. I’m excited to be part of the PCHS team, working with colleagues whose mission and values align spot-on with my own. Caregiver services are a deeply meaningful way to bring quality and caring in the lives of our clients while helping maintain their independence.

I find it rewarding working for a company that truly embodies their mission statement to provide personalized quality care, to the needs of their clients. I am a 3rd generation Colorado native, who loves urban ballroom dancing and Chicago stepping. My life’s path has gifted me with the opportunity to support some of the most amazing people. I get energize working with good people, who are passionate about what they do. On several occasions, you’ll find me jamming to the groovy tunes running through my mind. I’m a spiritual person, who loves praying and my grandchildren are my heart and soul. Quiet as it’s kept, their parents are pretty cool too.
