Unplug, Unwind and Reconnect Over the Weekend

Weekends are a time to spend with family and friends and enjoy the things you like to do. It is a time for reflection and to recharge your mind and your spirit to face the week ahead. Will there be a plan of things to do or are you just going to wing it! Planning your weekends to include everything you would like to accomplish at home is just as important as planning your week ahead. Are their piles of laundry that need to get done or maybe you need to get the dogs a much needed bath. Maybe there are chores your spouse needs to be reminded to do. Maybe it will be a weekend where you do absolutely nothing!

For others, weekends are about unplugging yourself from technology; even if just for a few hours. Giving your mind time to rest is not only good for the soul but it also allows you to fully focus on the people you love; your wife, your husband, significant other or your children. Too many hours during the week are already dedicated to our laptops, cell phones, office phones and other trappings of the business world. Yes we need to pay attention to the task at hand to be successful in the office but what about being successful at home?

Maybe you have parents that you haven’t visited lately or not visited often enough. When was the last time you went out on a date with your spouse? How about taking the kids to the zoo before they get to that age where they don’t want you around as much. In the blink of any eye, children who were once so dependent on you for everything in their lives get older and are exploring their own independence. Their hugs become less frequent and the “I love you’s” become more of an embarrassment to say. The times you should have visited your parents but just couldn’t find the time to do it are times you can never get back.

Sometimes it’s ok if laundry doesn’t get done, your husband didn’t do what you asked him to do two weekends ago and the dog didn’t get that dreaded bath. What truly is important is that we all should make it a point to spend meaningful time with the only thing that truly matters in the end; the people you love the most in the whole world and the people who love you back.
