Psychology Today states that “rest is regeneration.” In this busy time of the year, our clients and caregivers need to take the time to get the rest so that our functionality is the best that it can be. Notice that the key word is “rest” not “sleep” and there is a difference. Rest is an active conscious choice for each of us that we can control. It encompasses physical, mental, social and spiritual aspects of us as human beings. We need rest to control that regenerative power as well as to “maximize the effects of passive forms of rest like sleep.” There are various active rest techniques, many of these can be accomplished within one minute. These techniques such as something as simple as deep breathing for one minute, can calm you when you are stressed or revive you when you are exhausted. This in turn increases our productivity and our positive mental attitude. So in this busy time of the year, let’s commit to take the time to rest. We will be glad that we did! Merry Christmas from the PCHS Team!
