Spring is a time of renewal and when you look around, Spring has arrived! It’s as if everything is being renewed and so it is a good time for us to renew our commitment to Health in 2016. I would like to encourage everyone to shake off the winter blues, get outside and enjoy all the wonderful things that Spring has to offer.
What does this season offer? What are the benefits of Spring? Fruits and vegetables are fresher, there is more daylight, and the temperature is comfortable.
Maybe as part of your renewed commitment to healthier living, you can take the time to plant a small garden. Time spent gardening can reduce stress, add to your overall activity level and have the added benefit of producing wonderfully fresh veggies.
Spending time in nature is another wonderful way to improve your health. Make time this Spring to get out and take those midday walks you always long for during the winter months. Or how about plan a short weekend hike at a nearby hiking area? Studies show that time in nature reduces stress and what could be better than not only reducing stress, but also burning off some of those extra winter calories at the same time?
“Spring Cleaning” can be a positive addition to the list of benefits that Spring offers. I know it doesn’t sound that great, but Spring cleaning can be just as beneficial as all those lovely strolls in the woods. I mean it!!! Deep cleaning your home can reduce allergens that make Spring less than enjoyable for some and in doing so brings renewed life to your home environment! And let’s face it, working to get your house clean is yet another tool to get in additional physical activity.
Whatever you choose to do this Spring, at the very least get outdoors and enjoy the extra sunshine and fresh air. That is definitely one HUGE benefit of living in Colorado!
