We Make a Difference

Shirley O’Keefe was battling heart and kidney disease throughout her life and folks from all over the world sent her Valentine cards and other gifts as she continued to battle the odds. Her caregiver, Jesse Pettit, expressed how wonderful and caring Shirley was and how thankful Jesse was to care for her until the end. Shirley passed away on September 27, 2017, but her legacy of kindness lives on.

Never Giving Up

Ashlie Zimmerman suffered a life-threatening event when a blood clot was discovered that was so invasive  doctors believed she wasn’t going to make it. Yet, despite the odds that were stacked against her she was able to survive, recover and live to tell the tale. In this video we listen to her story at Colorado Mesa University (Hospital?) as she goes into details of her life-event and the desire to never give up, no matter the odds.

Caring is Rewarding

Amber White Lopez is a dedicated and hardworking caregiver and has cared for Robbie for a long time, now. A funny and caring musician, Robbie was living the time of his life until a terrible motorcycle accident left him paralyzed and bedridden.  Since his accident his family has cared for him and, to this day, can put a smile on his face and show his gratitude towards the efforts Amber puts in for him.

Appreciate the Little Things

James Gustafson and Maria Smoot met in the most unconventional way, but their love for each other burns brightly to this day. After doing his service for our country, James met Maria  in a meet up and, since then, they never left each other. But, as time went on, James developed back and spinal problems that would eventually leave him vulnerable and helpless. Had it not been for Maria and her desire to care for him, James would not have been here today to tell his story.

We Are Family

Justin Payne and his wife met during high school and since then they never separated. Soon after they married Justin was diagnosed with AL ports syndrome and it would change his life forever. Recovering against the odds after receiving a transplant from a generous donor, Justin now lives to try to help others in any way he can.

Robert Wallace met his wife Connie at a freshman English class in college during their youth. They helped each other, dated, fought, and eventually fell in love with each other and married. However, in 1979 his wife was diagnosed with MS and after that moment their lives will change forever. This is his story…

The Promise

PeopleCare Health Service had the honor to interview Ken Carter, a WWII veteran from Oakshire Trails in Pueblo, CO.  Ken served in the war in the Pacific and was honored in Oakshire Trails on May 26th, 2017. From his tales of joining the Armed Services and his time spent with his loved ones, Ken’s legacy is something to be remembered and honored.
