We will all have times in our lives that will present us with great opportunities and great challenges. During those times we need to focus on what got us to that point and what will get us through. We must always try to give our best effort in everything and anything we do, while understanding that there will be times we might fall short of our expectations or even someone else’s. Do NOT allow the destination to become your only avenue for growth. Remember that most of the growth in our lives will occur during the journey. If we focus on doing our best while on this journey by the time we reach the destination we realize that all the ups and downs made it more special. John Wooden is a legend in college basketball as the coach of the UCLA Bruins. In 40 seasons of coaching he had 1 losing season and won 10 NCAA National Championships. Most people would say that Coach Wooden probably didn’t have a lot of disappointments during his coaching career and you might be right. However, it took him 14 seasons to capture that 1st National Championship. How many in today’s environment would give a coach 14 seasons before saying: “Coach, I think we need to go in a different direction!”? My guess is if you were to ever speak with Coach Wooden or read any of his books you would realize very quickly that he was given opportunities because of his attitude, attention to details, and understanding that growth occurs during the journey. There are always going to be situations that possibly make you angry, frustrated, sad, excited, and happy. Just remember you are growing and so are the people around you. Use your skills to the best of your ability and your growth during your journey will be exponential.
