How to Gain Control When You’re Not in Control

Have you ever been in a situation where dysfunction of a situation has you saying, “if I could just…”, but find yourself frustrated and stressed instead because you feel you have no control over the situation? At this time you probably notice you are not at your best and feel overwhelmed and stressed. I don’t know about you, but for me feeling as if I have no control over a situation can be out right irritating until I realize I am in control.

That’s right, you have the ability to gain control even when you feel you have no control over the situation.  How you may ask? It is simple. Are you not in control of your attitude?  More importantly, are you going to allow the situation to control you?  The control you seek is in your attitude.  Believe it or not, your attitude is the facilitator of your thoughts and all outcomes.  Wade Bogg writes, “A positive attitude causes a chain reaction of positive thoughts, events, and outcomes. It is a catalyst and it sparks extraordinary results.”

Here are a few things you can focus on to gain the control you need and desire:

  • Remember you own your attitude. What will it be, positive or negative? Your attitude is the first step in becoming successful. Sporting a positive attitude will open those doors you need to become successful.
  • Your thoughts are your reality. If you choose to think poorly, then your outcomes will be poor.
  • Being thankful. It is easy to get caught up in a situation where you have no control. When this happens you fail to get the good news out. However, when you seek such gratitude then the good news is plentiful and your positive attitude becomes stronger.
  • Negative people and news just brings you down; so avoid such negativity at all cost.
  • Ask yourself what you have learned about the situation. You should be reassured any knowledge obtained can be priceless.
  • Work with the end in mind. How do you want the situation to end up? Remember all outcomes begin with your attitude, which is certainly something you can control.

Keeping a positive attitude at all times is the ticket to having control. Remember, a negative attitude only promotes irritation, frustration and undue stress. I promise, if you keep your focus on the elements written above, you will never feel out of control again. Furthermore, your attitude will deliver the results you need to become successful.  Just note, the cherry on top of all of this is the good health that only a positive attitude can provide.
