Do you ever wonder why it is so easy for us as individuals to be an “Armchair Quarterback”? You know, the guy who sits in the recliner with a full plate of nachos waiting for the Professional Athlete to make a small mistake or miscalculation so he can jump out of his chair and tell everyone in the room what exactly they did wrong and what they should have done differently to avoid the interception.
In Healthcare, we have a lot of “Armchair Quarterbacks”. This team of players ranges from community members, stakeholders, providers, employees right down to clients or consumers of healthcare, it is easy to sit back and point out all the could haves, should haves and did nots. All players on this team are happy to skip the lengthy meetings, forgo on the pages and pages of reading rules, regulations and state statues, find countless excuses to not listen to the other side of the debate and work toward consensus or what is best for Colorado but rather suite up in the last five minutes of the game and give their best “coach breakdown” to sum up the game-win or lose.
At PCHS we pride ourselves in getting dirty, suiting up every day and getting on the field, even when we know we will lose the game. Our team may get bloody and beat up, often we are tired and playing on empty but we are in the whole game – good or bad. It is easy to sit on the sidelines and make grand statements but it takes grit, dedication, teamwork, commitment and honor to get set in position and wait for the whistle to blow. If you want to join our team and “suit up” for the game, contact us about how you can get involved. Watch for PCHS and how we are involved in Changing Healthcare in Colorado.
